Freshwater Pearls that my Wife Loves

Freshwater pearls are one of kind; being worn all around the world by thousands gives women the mentality that they are precious- which they are! They are the only gem that is created by a living creature. They have powers, so I have heard. Powers like maintaining love, giving a sort of luck, and protection. I think everyone could use more of all of those powers. The beauty of this gem is the imperfections that radiate from one another. They are known for their imperfections which create the gorgeous look about them.

The first thing that my wife would do is first fall in love with pearl pendants. They are all magnificent. I know she loves them for their simplicity and their uniqueness. They are fun to pair with a simple chain and elaborate earrings. This way it presents a sophisticated look without being over bearing. This is a great way to start out your collection of this precious gem and learn to value to the beauty that they hold. Now, I’m sure she’ll bug me to buy her a set.

My wife an instant celebrity

My wife was so disappointed missing to watch her TV exposure in an interview aired in ‘Balitang Middle East’, a TV program by a local Philippine TV network dedicated to Overseas Filipino Workers working here in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The interview took place in our home and we were expecting it to be aired later in 3 weeks; which is the usual schedule from previous occasions, but it was aired a week earlier. We were not aware of it until her office mate friend called informing that she was on TV at the moment, she was so excited but we have no means to watch because of technical failure of the satellite antenna at home.

The interview was about Jessica Sanchez, the latest sensation who is stealing the show of American Idol Season 11. Well she just contented herself receiving feed backs from our friends and acquaintances alike, her being that witty during the interview, very much aware and updated on the topic, and being telegenic. The more she wanted to see the coverage that we tried to call other friends if they could record the program on the next viewing for us to see.

The next morning and days after,  she had received lots of commentaries at her place of work and among friends within our community telling her that they saw her on TV,  that made her an instant celebrity.

Expensive camera shots

Recently, Riyadh traffic had installed cameras on almost all  major road intersections within the city. The new camera system introduced through the Saher road safety program have led to improvement in driving behaviors, disciplining both nationals and expatriates as well, and thus elliminating frequent road accidents, and reducing rude practices of other drivers.

Panorama mall along Takhasusi street

In a short period the program has been in effect, it has been extremely successful in detecting offenses, ending in a text message informing the motorist of his offense. Cameras record driving offenses, such as beating the red light, stepping on pedestrian crossing, immediate turning right on a red signal, and also took pictures of drivers who fled the scene after a traffic accident by photographing the front and rear of the offending vehicle, its license plate and driver.

Violation fees was so expensive that you are forced to abide and follow traffic rules. Every flash costs not less than SR 300 and if not settled after a grace period, the amount doubles. So now, every time I approach a traffic signal I immediately slow down with a smile, rather than beating the system that will capture you shocked  with an expensive camera shot.

Handling Team Conflict

Whether in school, at the office, at the playing field or at a grouping, being a “team member” is a challenging role. How do people with diverse backgrounds, abilities and beliefs set aside their differences and start working together for a common goal?

Elusive as good teamwork might seem, groups can take certain steps to overcome challenges and perform well. For most teams, some disagreements and tensions are inevitable. How a group handles those conflicts is key. One important tip: Do not sweep disagreements under the rug. Instead of the differences leading to a nasty arguments that then escalate – or the dispute being ignored, which causes tensions to worsen – learn to embrace productive conflict.

Productive discussions focus on strategic concepts or ideas, not personality matters. Make sure people who shouldn’t be involved aren’t drawn into these conflicts.

Remember: Avoiding tough issues and personal confrontation will only lead to more problems down the road. In the end, conflict – handled productively – is an opportunity for your team to learn and grow.

Multiplicity Photo

Multiplicity is a technique or a photography trick used in photography by placing the same person many times in the same photo. It was fun using this technique on my own pictures and likewise with my family members and friends. Results were awesome and my friends keep on asking me how it was done. They assumed that I’m into an in-depth obsession on my photography hobby that I was able to create such unlikely results.

They do not know, this is a technique using some features of Adobe PhotoShop, by combining the photographs into layers and mask out the parts surrounding the body. This process can go fairly quickly,  however if the bodies are overlapping each other then it can become time consuming because you have to carefully mask out everything but the body. Though it will be a little hard for a beginner, but practice makes it perfect.

Some tutorial videos on how to do it are available on the net. Just  a little research, practice and patience to make it perfect.

Marriage Enrichment Retreat

Had attended marriage enrichment retreats during our early years in a Catholic community in the past. These retreats has been our learning tool and experience  for us spouses wherein we were presented some important areas of marriage and family life, which form the foundation for a life together as married couples and as members of our community.

And as years passed by, me and my wife has been requested in many occasions as resource speakers in the same retreats which we have already attended and participated. Thus, we thought we have known enough.

Last weekend, we  were again invited to attend another retreat. This time, topics are of a higher aspect which serves as an ‘enhancement’ of what we had already been doing in our married life. It was indeed a very interesting retreat and what we have learned a lot from it and if applied would surely strengthen our love and deepen our relationship. I am now assured to realize my vow to my wife, that we will grow old together… till death we will part.

Gift of music

Here in our office, the traditional exchange gifts or Kris Kringle still holds true.  It is only heard during Christmas season and is referred to as secret exchanging of gifts.  Actually, just the other day we already had drawn lots of names picked from a secret box and whoever name we picked, will be our “baby”.   The idea is to give every week a present to the particular person based on the agreed gift description with minimum price. And the best or the most expensive gift we can afford to give will be given during the revelation day- Christmas day!

Well, I know most of you can relate with the feeling of not knowing what to give because it gets harder each year finding a unique or appropriate gift.  And since shopping online is now very accessible, I thought of browsing the web for Kris Kringle gift ideas.   I chanced upon a site where I found a wide array of electronic equipment and I fancied a  dab radio which I believed would be a perfect gift for my “baby” Mr. Timothy.  It would suit him perfectly because he proved to be the music man in the office.  And I know his favorite Michael Jackson music when played on it would sound good  that will surely send him dancing the Jackson moves to our delight.  Such a funny and friendly man!

I am positive that my gift this year would be ideal and just perfect for him!

Angelic bedroom

Thanks to planning and hard work, the house of my cousin Kate and her husband is almost complete.  It’s been an  ardent wish for the couple to have their dream house realized and now,  they are dreaming no more!   Both of them are nurses who worked double jobs and because they are goal oriented, they have had enough saved up for the interior of their house .

Kate is a fastidious lady who wanted the interior of her house painted all in white.   She wanted an ideal clean, bright look inside which in fairness is rightfully awesome!  But I think it is unlikely to have their kids bedroom also be painted  in white but that’s how she wanted it .   The white room is also noticeably furnished with childrens white bedroom furniture and when we asked her,  she proudly recommends to browse Deals Direct site for the widest collection of quality storage cube shelves that are prominent furniture inside the masters and kids room.

Kate said children are like angels sent from heaven so she sees to it that their rooms are immaculately clean and bright and it is referred to as  angelic bedroom, because that’s where her angels sleep.

But wait!  Hear this!   The kids name are Angelo and Angela.

Oh well!

Memories of the past

I believed that my heart has already sunk deep into my new found hobby- that is photography!   I guess, I’ve already photographed my wife in all her wholesome (!) poses and all angles (left, right, side, front, back view) and I know that I should not only confine my focus  in portraits but I should also try other subject like landscapes so I can experiment, discover and learn more about the hidden wonders of photography.

One early week-end morning, out of the blue I wanted to go for a nature photoshoot.  Believing that I have already mastered the setting, lighting and correct camera angles with weeks of experimenting different shots of my wife, I know that I am ready to try landscape photography.  So, when I woke her up, she thought all along that it would be another exhausting photo session but  she was relieved to know that it would be different this time.

Off we went to the ruins and as I marveled at the memories of the past… remains of the mudhouses served as my subject for the day. As we go from one house to the other, I was relating a little bit of Saudi history to children who were with us.  I did some research before the photoshoot so I can understand better what was behind my chosen subject- the mud houses.

I am looking forward to more outdoor photoshoots in the weeks to come.   That will give my wife the time to deal with her other interests – scrapbooking.  After I’ve bought my new camera, since then, she became my willing subject as I test and experiment with my shots.

P is for purple ball

The other day, I went  home with a purple gym ball and my wifey seemed convinced that I am decided to lose some weight when he saw me already getting red puffing, blowing my might inflating the ball.  Whew…I almost run out of breath but it did not stop me because I want to show my wife that I am now determined to start my work-out.   I had enough of her teasing about my pot belly so, for the nth time, I will strive to get back in shape… how long?  I really don’t know yet but I will start gradually and steadily.   According to her, everytime we watch the biggest loser program, all I do is promise myself that I will be like one of those contestants who persevered to trim and tone but admittedly, I am aware that I was all talkies… my wife thinks so too!   There is every reason for her to complain because my excess weight resulted to my snoring so loud that the very next day, you will hear how exasperated she is because of sleeplessness.

Consulting a physician for my snoring is not my priority.  My being overweight is the culprit so I will do something about it and hopefully that will fix the problem in a way.  I’ve seen her bought and used earplugs but it didn’t work.   Lately, my wife found one best strategy which is sleeping ahead of me and my snoring effectively do not bother her when she is already deep and in faraway dreamland.    But wait, last night when she was sleeping,  I’ve heard a funny sound… gotcha my wife.. you are snoring now… Interestingly, we can make beautiful music together… snoring duet..lol

The purple ball is not only for me… my wife has to share it with me because since she snores, she is also on the heavy sound.  Yipee.. yeheey!  I am not alone…  I have an exercise partner now!

keeping our fingers crossed, purple ball…
